Day Three: Six WMF Scholars Giving Back to Their Communities

Four days until we announce our new 2013-2014 WMF Scholars! For six days we will share the different stories of current WMF Scholars who are making a difference in their communities worldwide. We hope you become inspired to become an active member of your community. It is the power of a community that creates change.

Day Three: Rijan Karkee

Rijan Karkee is 21 years old and studying Applied Physics at Kathmandu University in Nepal. He is actively engaged in Nepal Scout (Nobel Crew) and he initiated a “City Cleaning” program with fellow students in association with the Society of Aware Students (SAS). This semester Rijan participated in “The Pahichan Abhiyan” organized by SAS, went to a Service Camp with the Nobel Crew and was a Red Cross volunteer at Kathmandu University.

Rijan is studying Applied Physics because he believes the knowledge that he can gain by asking questions and creating experiments are two elements that can change the future of the world we live in. He says, “A small development of law in physics can change the entire world assisting every little creature on earth”.

Rijan’s studies will be put to good use as he aims to assist his hilly and mountainous country of Nepal by introducing new technologies that can be used in this rugged environment.

Giving back to your community can happen in many shapes and forms.
