2013 YMCA d’Haiti Camp in Cayes-Jacmel

Dear friends and partners,

By this time, all campers, monitors, staff and coaches are back to their normal routine after spending a great week leaving the YMCA mission in Cayes-Jacmel, Haiti. On Sunday morning, Jim and I quickly debriefed over breakfast and on the way to the airport and have jumped to the early conclusion that this camp edition could be ranked among the best camps. Jim will complete the debriefing with our friends in USA and I, in Haiti, will do the same with the staff, in order to continue monitoring this great program for the advancement of our YMCA.

Once again, one of our core programs “Football camp” was a success, because of all of you and especially our sponsors: Ridgewood YMCA, Wells Mountain Foundation, American Embassy in Haiti, Food for the Poor, Culligan and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Civic Action (MJSAC)!

Indeed, 162 youth and kids aged between 8 and 18 and 38 monitors, coaches and staff enjoyed camp this year while they learned true leadership components and YMCA core values: respect, caring, responsibility and honesty and most of all great football and volleyball techniques. Once again YMCA d’Haiti was introduced grandiosely and successfully to a new community in Haiti. As some of you know, Jacmel, the nearby city will be the home of a new YMCA branch, so the kids who leaved the YMCA mission at its best with us this week were left with that faith and many other great memories!

A special thank to our nine volunteers who left their comfort in United States to come and coach our kids and youth: Alex, Rob, Isabelle, Charity, Eamon, Jackie, Michael, Dan and Jimmy. The campers perceive you as role models! You have complemented our work and their parents, teachers and pastors’ role more by your positive attitude and actions. By doing so, each of you added so much value to the camp and for the campers. We miss you already.

A full report with pictures will follow before the end of this week.

Looking forward to Cap-Haitien in 2014, I thank you all again for your support and send you my warmest regards,

Gwenael

Executive Director, YMCA d’Haiti
