WMF Kenyan Fellowship Meeting Report – Prepared by WMF Scholar Brian Juma
It is my pleasure to report to you that the planned community activity was carried out successfully. The event took place on Saturday, November 8th at the Thomas Barbados Children’s Home, from 1100 hrs to 1500 hrs.
The main aim of the visit was to give back to our communities, and helping them realize that despite the challenges they have faced in life, there is still a brighter future. We specifically chose this home because it is the home of vulnerable, orphaned and abandoned individuals from infants to teens and to adults, and who are of diverse regions, tribes and backgrounds from all over Kenya.
We took a tour of the home and learnt more about it. Some of the activities we carried out included; washing, general cleaning, cooking for the kids and feeding them, brushing their shoes, arranging their clothes and playing with them. WMF Scholars also contributed some materials and amounts which we were able to do shopping for the children and the teens. We also had small motivation talks with the teens and they really appreciated our presence.
We hope to do more next time and make it bigger.
In attendance were; Brian Juma, Emmanuel Mabibo, Maulline Akumu, Robert Kituyi, Peter Kabethi, his interpreter Teresia, Evelyne Mwende, Paul Omondi and his friend Ruth, and David Ouma. We were 10 in total; 8 scholars and 2 guests.
We want to take this opportunity to thank the WMF Board of Directors, staff and supporters for the support and for making this happen. Were it not for you guys, we couldn’t have even met in the first place. Thanks to you Nicole for the advice, coordination and for calling and talking with everyone! We really appreciate you all!
