Kenyatta University Kenya Red Cross Society Activities

WMF 2012 Scholar Brian Juma Omala of Kenya is an active member of the Kenyatta University Kenya Red Cross Society. Read his summary of their most recent community service project:

“On Saturday March 15th a group of the Kenya Red Cross Society Members and I, went to SOON Children’s Home in Mwiki, Kasarani, about 30km from our campus. The home was started in 1993 and as per now it has a total of 25 children, most of whom are orphans, vulnerable or were abandoned by their parents.

We washed their clothes, cleaned their environment, cooked for them, ate together and even played with them. We had so much fun that when it was time to leave, some of the children literally shed tears. The biggest lesson I learned was that every child needs someone to make them happy so that they can focus on the positive sides of life and be resourceful to the community. That way, their morale and self esteem goes up, so they think less about the challenges facing them.”
