Rijan Karkee a 2012 WMF Scholar studying at Kathmandu University in Nepal shared the Dashain festival with us. Rijan explains, “Dashain is a festival for taking blessing from seniors. We first put “Tika” (red colored) on our foreheads from father, mother and brother. And then we roam around relatives houses, especially “Mamaghar” (which is mother’s original house)” for additional blessings for abundance in the upcoming years.
“Similarly Tihar is for taking blessing from sisters and it is called Bhai Tika.”
“We also do Pooja (Worshiping God) to Goddess Laxmi which is believed as the Goddess of wealth.”
