Foster Fosu a 2013 WMF Scholar from Ghana will be studying Medicine and is also passionate about encouraging younger students to embrace education. With two friends, Foster created the Agents of Change group and shares their story:
From a personal experience, and from a survey that I conducted in some selected towns and villages, I realized that some students have to be compelled to learn simply because they do not understand why they had to invest most of their time studying. To them, learning is a complete waste of time and will not lead them anywhere.
In line with this, Agents Of Change, a three member group which I head, [we] decided not to bore the students with too many academic stuff. However, we employed a creative way to educate these young ones on the significance of education and why they must take their books seriously.
We made them understand, using ourselves as living testimonies, that they have a bright future and a role to play towards the development of the nation. However, that goal can not be realized without successful education. The exercise was not only fun but fruitful as most of them gave us a positive assurance that they would take their studies seriously. It is our plan to do a follow up to check on their progress this Christmas.
