During our January WMF trip to Haiti, Tom and I participated in the ceremony and festivities launching a brand new YMCA branch in Kenscoff, Haiti – high in the mountains above Port-au-Prince. In the fall of 2008, WMF sponsored book drives in northern New Jersey and Vermont. We sorted and shipped 10,000 books to Haiti to be shelved in three YMCA English libraries. While we were expecting to be part of the ribbon-cutting for the new library in Kenscoff (the only one in town), I was very surprised to see the name of the library – Bibliotheque Carol Wells, or in English – Carol Wells Library!! A library named after me!! I was very touched and very honored. It is an exciting high point in my literacy work over the past 12 years.

It was very special to open this new YMCA and library, and extra special to have the library named after Carol! Tom
