Paying in Forward: Advice Zidya of Zimbabwe

Your Monday inspiration hails from Zimbabwe this week! Advice Zidya, is a 2013 WMF Scholar studying Medicine at the University of Zimbabwe.

Advice shared with us that his first semester was a great experience. He was in a totally new place, met new people and learned many new things.

"As I was adapting to a new environment, I managed to find some time to get involved in some activities 

besides my school work. Although it was not much, I took part in cleaning campaigns around the 

campus. The cleaning ups were mainly organized by the Students Representative Committee (SRC) and 

the hostel committees. It was a realization that the Harare City council was failing to fulfill its duties to 

clean up the campus due to economic hardships so it was our duty to help out. We saw this fit since the 

rain season was coming and a lot of waste was going to result in serious health problems like a cholera 

outbreak. I was also involved in charity work organized by the church on campus. The church helped in collection 

of donations for Mutemwa Leprosy Centre and also an orphanage there at Mutemwa."

Advice has taken his WMF commitment of performing community service one step further and discusses his new initiative with us below; 

“We also managed to setup a charity fund account as members of the medical students’ class. We are hoping that by the end of next semester we could have enough money to send at least one student to university and be able to make his/her dream come true as Wells Mountain Foundation has done for me.”

We could not be more proud of this idea! Personal connections and experiences drives ideas to become realities. We hope to hear of great success from this student sponsored scholarship fund at the University of Zimbabwe for a future medical student!
