Robert Kituyi, a 2013 WMF Scholar from Kenya is studying for his Bachelors in Journalism at Mount Kenya University. Robert was recently awarded a trip to the Hague, Netherlands for a six day exposure trip on human rights activities and international justice! We look forward to learning more about his trip in the coming months.

Robert is extremely active in reporting on issues of human rights in his region. We are very honored to see his involvements with rural communities and topics of importance continue to reach far beyond the borders of Kenya.
He is pictured here with Kenya’s Chief Justice, Dr. Willy Mutunga in recognition for excellent reporting on prison reforms in Kenya.
Robert also received an award for 1st runner up in the journalism category of children for his communication on female genital mutilation.
And most recently, an announcement was made honoring Robert as a winner of the TUVUKE Initiative Media Award for 2013. The TUVUKE Initiative Media Award is given in “…recognition of the contribution of Kenyan media professionals in supporting all democratic and electoral processes that led to peaceful elections in 2013”. We hope to share more photos of this ceremony with our WMF Family soon!
The TUVUKE Initiative Facebook Page states, “Awards will be given to winning and outstanding journalists who exhibited conflict sensitive reporting and have, in their stories, advanced inclusion and acceptance of diversity in Kenya. The awards will comprise these categories: Radio, Print, Television, Cartoon, Social Media and Institutional. Over the last two years, the Initiative has worked closely with the media at various levels to build their capacity for conflict sensitive and responsible reporting. This partnership with the media helped TUVUKE Initiative realize its initial objective which was to achieve peaceful, free and fair elections in Kenya. TUVUKE Initiative for peaceful, inclusive and just society in Kenya remains committed to working with the media and Kenyan communities to achieve sustainable peace.”
