LEAVING A POSITIVE PRINT IN ON THE SANDSTONE OF TIME
INTRODUCTION
I feel highly honoured to be the writer of this article “leaving a positive print on the sandstone of time” I congratulate all the wells mountain scholars for their selection as part of the wells family. I’m most indebted to the president and entire board of directors of wells mountain foundation for their generosity and interest in human development.
The good foundation that is laid for us today will determine the bearing our future will take. It is therefore necessary that we imbibe ourselves with positive values that will propel us to true greatness. I will like us to ask ourselves what can of reputation we desire to build? Will ours be the reputation of a self-conceited person that causes pains and suffering to others, or a virteous person who spreads joy, peace and love in the society? The later may seem out of tune in our present day world where good reputation has been sacrificed on the altar of mammon, and money is sometime enthroned above all things. It is note worthy that the choice still remains ours despite all societal constraints.
WHY BUILD A GOOD REPUTATION
A good reputation is the foundation for true success. It marks you out from the crowd and puts you well ahead your peers. A good reputation takes you to places where money cannot, sets you among kings and puts you in the hearts of many. A good reputation is something you earn and nobody can ever take away from you; it is yours to keep forever.
THERE IS NO SHORTCUT TO SUCCESS
To drive the point home, let me give you an insight about the life of a famous African idol “Nelson Mandela”. Mandela was born in an era where colonialism was aat its peak in south Africa. He grew up improving on his reputation and political counterization of the colonial activities in south Africa. This unfortunately landed him in prison, but because his course was fair and just, the same action brought him to the position of the first president of south Africa. In a nutshell whenever you prove worthy of using a given opportunity, God gives you another.
HOW TO BUILD GOOD REPUTATION AND LEAVE POSITIVE PRINTS IN THE SANDSTONE OF TIME
Each and every one of us have the opportunity to indentify, develop our god given talents, and use them positively to make positive impacts in the society. Now it’s the best time for us to decide to use our tie well to build a positive reputation so as to leave a positive prints on the sandstone of time. Building a good reputation and leaving positive footprints on the sandstone of time should start at our various small communities and progress to the rest of the world by imbibing the following among others;
(1) DISCIPLINE AND OBEDIENCE
Obedience is better than sacrifies. Obedience to God, our parents, authorities etc, is the first step in building a good reputation towards developing positive prints. Obedience emanates from a disciplined mind and there can be no meaningful progress without discipline.
(2) SERVICE
Leaving positive footprints is built primarily through service to others, and service is best rendered fro whatever position we find ourselves. Like a city set on the mountain, ir becomes compulsory that we obey Christ’s injuction so that our light will shine. Every person, both scholars and workers is challenged to render excellent service so as to leave a positive footprint on sandstone of our time, as Christ did. This is indeed a universal challenge to all mankind.
(3) HARDWORK
There is no substitute for honest hard work as the pathway to success. Those who work hard reaps the fruit of there labour, but lazy people often continue to wallow in want and deprivation. To leave positive record on the sandstone of time, students, youths, parents and teachers must seek excellence through hard work. Hard work does not kill rather it brings joy.
(4) MORALITY
There is no good reputation without good morals. A moral upright person is a pride to the society and brings no shame. It is only people with good morals who live long enough to leave positive footprints on the sandstone of time. Do not allow your dreams to die young through recklessness. Make a resolve to live a moral upright life so that you can meaningfully contribute quota to the progress of humanity and leave your footprints on the sandstone of time.
CONCLUSION
Everyone of us has an opportunity to build a good reputation, touch the hearts of others and leave positive footprints on the sandstone of time. We youths and wells mountain scholars have even greater opportunities and more time to learn from this role models and make a positive impact on the world. Ni one can claim that he or she can do nothing or has no talent. We all have been given one talents or the other and we are called to use them and make the world a better place.
